PARKINSON'S DISEASE

Parkinson's disease (PD) belongs to a group of conditions called motor system disorders, which are the result of the loss of dopamine-producing brain cells. The primary symptoms of PD are tremor, or trembling in hands, arms, legs, jaw, and face; rigidity, or stiffness of the limbs and trunk; slowness of movement; and postural instability, or impaired balance and coordination. You can check more details through internet. The causes and treatments are not much known yet.

This is my point of view from Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Major symptom of PD is trembling. Trembling is moving in another word. Look at the nature. Nature has some components; such as wind, warmth, dampness, dryness and coldness. What makes moving from them? We can imagine coldness makes trembling. When we come out from warm place to cold, we tremble, isn't it? When wind blows, many things move, depending on how strong the wind is. There could be hurricane, storm or breeze depending on the wind strength in the nature. Wind comes and combines with other forces; such as dampness, dryness, warmth and coldness. Same things happen in our body like in nature; this is TCM point's view.

Let us think about motor systems in the body. Motor systems are combined with bones, tendon, muscle, skin and blood & vessels and nerve. If any one of them is wrong, motor systems will be dysfunctional. Those motor systems combine with nature components (wind, warmth, dampness, dryness and coldness) in the body. All components of motor systems are related with our organs; such as liver, heart, lungs, kidney and spleen (pancreas) according to TCM. All these organs relate with head producing dopamine etc. directly and indirectly.

Therefore we find the cause of trembling from organs. As soon as we find the cause, we can adjust the function of organs; if excessive, sedation is the answer and if deficiency, tonifying is the answer. All these are possible as these concepts are the basic of TCM.

Real example: A man, 58 years old came for prostate problem. He used to have blood in urine, frequent and painful urination. He has poor digestion and constipation. He also got a little hearing loss and sleeping disorder. His weight was 250 lbs. I noticed trembling on his right arm and left leg while diagnosing every 3-5 minutes. He told me this trembling getting often lot more and worse. After 8 treatments he lost 30 lbs and his belt was reduced by 6 inches. He felt much younger than before. No more blood in urine, no more pain during urination. He still gets up twice, but sleeping quality is much better. His frequency of trembling is noticeably reduced now, 2-3 times per hour according to the patient. All these happen by adjusting related organs' function.
